Keegan is finally looking pregnant, the flood waters have recessed and her first quarter of teaching is coming to a close. It is time to start nesting.
The theme is Homemade and Hand-Me-Down. Our goal is to make as little un-compostable garbage, spend the least amount of money, eat the freshest most local food, purchase from local small business and artist, and have a wonderful time.
So get creative and crafty and seek out reused, repurposed and re-gifted items. We are encouraging you to find hand-me-downs wherever possible. We can't wait to see what we come up with.
When Keegan, Mom and I were first talking about this baby shower we thought about how much really good stuff is out there that gets thrown away and how much energy and waste is involved in making new stuff. We looked to our grandmothers for inspiration: GHelen and her "ecological art" she was way ahead of her time with what we now call repurposed goods. And the frugalness of the mothers who had to raise their children during and after the Great Depression. The lessons that we all, including our children, learn from not having to much but just what we need. G Pat's crafts and G Katie's clothes and quilts. We love items built to last. Less really is more. This was our inspiration for this party. Come and eat, talk, drink and enjoy.
Keegan sent me the following letter:
